It occurred to me are you aware of the Cafe Del Mar series?

I was driving the taxis at the time I discovered Cafe Del Mar. The students I picked up mentioned it a few times as I was often playing what is now known as Chill out music, in the taxi ( Keeps the drunks quite).There are 15 volume’s so far. It all started in San Antonio in Ibiza. After the night clubs finished at 4-5 in the morning people would go to this cafe over looking the beach and as the sun rose this beautiful music would be played creating a “chill-out” feeling.

It started in 1980 and the idea was to ” to create a special atmosphere, unique and unbelievable experience, a dream where perfect fusion of music and wonderful sights will take us to an unknown place.” According to the owners Ramón Guiral, Carlos Andrea, and José Les.

As soon as you listen to any of the volumes you can almost smell the atmosphere of the beach at that time of the morning as the sun is rising for a new day.

I didn’t like Vol1 much but volume 2 improved and the following volumes are generally very good. I think by volume 11 things started to getting a bit bland for my tastes but even so usually on each Cafe Del Mar volume there is a few tracks which justifies the price.

The earlier volumes can be purchased quite cheaply but the more recent ones are $30 for a double or $20 for the single CD s.

Cafe Del Mar is now credited as being a major foundation in Chill-out culture.
