New Radicals
You get what you give.

When I first heard this I was working as laborer on a huge mansion being converted to luxury flats.
Straight away I loved it. Its a get up and go and feel good song. When you first hear it you think this is OK. Then after about 40 seconds it breaks into the main flow of the song.
The group are called New Radicals who were American and led by
Gregg Alexander. Who co wrote the song with Rick Nowels.
New Radicals were made up from mainly session musicians and they did one tour and one album.
Gregg Alexander was the main writer who went on to write songs for amongst other people Santana but with this song he gets help from Rick Nowels.
The only album they recorded called “Maybe you’ve been brainwashed as well”, has eleven tracks with the music reminding you of Todd Rungren, Mick Jagger, Prince and World Party. Its Rock Soul influenced as well.
The actual song You get what you give, is really about being yourself and not try to be something your not.
“the song itself is about remaining true to who you are and not being “a fake”
The closing lyrics of this song caused controversy as they accused Marilyn Monroe, Beck, Courtney Love and Hanson of being fakes and that the New Radicals will “kick their ass in.” Apparently not all of these artist held a grudge: Hanson collaborated with Gregg Alexander on their song “Lost Without Each Other” on the Underneath
EdgeTime magazine, U2 guitarist The Edge said that this is the song he is most jealous of.
Alexander threw in the part where he insulted the celebrities to see weather the media would focus on the political issues the song addresses or if it would focus on the insults. obviously it was the insults. Maryilyn Manson said he was just upset his name was used in the same sentence as Courtney Love, not that he was offended by the threat at the end. Beck Hansen said he ran into Alexander in a supermarket and Alexander apologized to him, and said that he “didn’t mean to get personal”. Hanson has forgave him as well, being that they collaborated together.
Wake up kids, we’ve got the dreamers disease
Age fourteen, they got you down on your knees
So polite, we’re busy still saying please
Frienemies, who when you’re down ain’t your friend
Every night, we smash their mercedes-benz
First we run, and then we laugh ’till we cry
But when the night is falling, you cannot find the light
You feel your dreams are dying, hold tight
* You’ve got the music in you
Don’t let go, you’ve got the music in you
One dance left, this world is gonna pull through
Don’t give up, you’ve got a reason to live
Can’t forget, we only get what we give
I’m comin’ home baby, you’re tops, give it to me now
Four a.m., we ran a miracle mile
We’re flat broke, but hey we do it in style
The bad rich, God’s flying in for your trial
But when the night is falling and you cannot find a friend
You feel your tree is breaking, just bend
[Repeat *]
This whole damn world can fall apart
You’ll be OK follow your heart
You’re in harms way I’m right behind
Now say you’re mine
[Repeat *]
Don’t let go, I feel the music in you
Fly high
What’s real can’t die
You only get what you give
You’re gonna get what you give
Just don’t be afraid to live
Health insurance rip off lying
FDA big bankers buying
Fake computer crashes dining
Cloning while they’re multiplying
Fashion shoots with Beck and Hanson
Courtney love and marilyn manson
You’re all fakes, run to your mansions
Come around, we’ll kick your ass in
Don’t let go
One dance left
Don’t give up
Can’t forget … till fade
